![]() ![]() Scholars aren’t 100% sure what sort of calendar the Arabs originally used but we do know one thing: it certainly was not a lunar calendar. ![]() The Islamic lunar calendar is inherited from the old Arab calendar the names of the months in the Islamic calendar are the same as the names used by the pre-Islamic Arabs. We Muslims get to experience Ramadan in all seasons of the year. This means that the month of Ramadan can occur in Spring, Summer, Autumn, or Winter. All you need to know is that the months of the Islamic lunar calendar are not fixed to the seasons of the year. You don’t even need to know that Muslims use a lunar calendar or what a lunar calendar is to understand this. Someone who’s known Muslims for about 16-17 years knows that Ramadan is now 6 months earlier than it used to be and that in the same number of years, it’ll therefore go back to where it was originally and complete a 33-year cycle. You could know absolutely zero about Islam, but if you closely pay attention to this trend long enough, you’ll be able to guess accurately that Ramadan will gradually pass through all the seasons of the year. Even people who know very little about Islam can clearly tell that their Muslim friends, neighbours and colleagues are doing that thing where they don’t eat or drink stuff and many of them might have figured out that this seems to happen earlier and earlier every year. Th is paper looks at the process of early entry and development of Islam in the Kubu Kingdom, its religious scholars and their works as well as its religious institutions that once existed in the Kingdom.Pretty much everyone knows by now that we Muslims use some mysterious calendar that’s out of sync with the seasons. During his reign, the institution of the muft i was created and a number of religious works were written. Th us, there have been long dynamics of Islamization in this Kingdom, and reached its peak when Syarif Abbas was in power. As a new region, it is thought that the establishment of this Kingdom coincided with the advent of Islam brought by Syarif Idrus Alaydrus. It means that the Kubu Kingdom initially did not consist of densely populated villages. Th e territory of Kubu Kingdom was very limited merely to include Padang Tikar, Terentang, Kubu, and Teluk Pekadai. Th ey embraced Islam and made it an Islamic Kingdom in West Borneo. Later on, it became a kingdom because of the massive migration into the new territory. Th e new village was offi cially named " Kubu " in 1775 (Yosep, 1995). In other words, Kubu was a checkpoint to secure the waters from pirate attacks (Djunaidy, 2001). ![]() Th e origin of the Kubu Kingdom was previously marked with the establishment of a village at the junction of three rivers and the construction of a fort in 1768. Karena persoalan kalender hijriyah bukan hanya persoalan sains dan syari’ah, namun juga harus melibatkan kekuatan politik. Kriteria dan sistem apapun yang akan digunakan dengan melibatkan negara yang memiliki kekuatan, maka hasil-hasil pertemuan yang dilakukan akan bermakna. Peran aktif pemerintah dengan membentuk UndangUndang sangat diperlukan untuk mengunci semua upaya yang telah dilakukan oleh banyak pihak. Otoritas tunggal dari pemerintah merupakan strategi penyelesaian masalah kalender hijriyah. Dengan demikian, kalender hijriyah perlu mengambil langkah sebagaimana kalender Masehi. Otoritas tunggal merupakan kunci dari kesuksesan kalender Masehi menjadi kalender global. Tiga syarat utama untuk membentuk kalender yang mapan telah dipenuhi oleh kalender Masehi yaitu ada otoritas tunggal, ada kriteria yang disepakati dan ada batasan wilayah keberlakuan. Banyak perubahan yang harus dijalani kalender Masehi. Kalender masehi dapat menjadi kalender global membutuhkan waktu 19 abad. Kalender ini sudah berjalan 14 abad, namun belum menjadi kalender universal yang memberikan kepastian bagi umat Islam. Kalender hijriyah sangat dibutuhkan oleh umat Islam karena terkait erat dengan pelaksanaan ibadah. Tulisan ini membahas tentang pendekatan politik dalam hal ini melalui otoritas pemerintah sebagai upaya unifikasi kalender hijriyah agar sejajar dengan kalender Masehi. ![]()
